Employment opportunity – Administrative Assistant

Michigan Forest Biomaterials Institute (MIFBI) is seeking a part-time administrative assistant to perform an exciting blend of executive, clerical and programmatic support.

The position reports to and provides support to the executive director. An average of 20 hours per week may be flexibly scheduled.  Starting pay will be a minimum of $13/ hour.  The current position has a 9-month duration but may be renewed when MIFBI continues to enjoy success and growth.

In addition to day to day office management duties would include:

Communication – Handle general inquiries, communicate items of interest, drafts articles for MIFBI website and/or in partnering organizations’ publications, and draft other communications for the executive director.  Update website with information of interest and event information.

Records – Collect and organize MIFBI contact lists; track sponsorships and other supporters; collect and post minutes and agenda for records and post to website.

Financial – create invoices, issue receipts, utilize accounting software, make needed deposits, and help prepare periodic reconciliation of accounts with executive director and treasurer.

Program support – Assist planning, arranging and carrying out a variety of logistical tasks for MIFBI events (conferences, workshops, etc.).  Depending on interest and ability, may include occasional overnight travel within Michigan.

Other duties may be assigned by the Executive Director as needed.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Graduate with 2 or 4-year degree with 2 years of experience or 4 years of experience
  • Must be computer literate and adept with social media
  • Experience with accounting software
  • Experience with MS Office – Word, Powerpoint, Excel
    • Experience using advanced features of word processing applications such as tables, mail merge or creating macros.
    • Experience using advanced features of spreadsheet/database applications such as using cell range names or using the file extract/combine feature.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning/professional development

Desired qualifications:

  • Familiarity with WordPress or building web pages.
  • Experience with Eventbrite
  • Experience working in a Non-profit setting
